Event Description:

Are you new to the desert? Or, maybe you’ve lived here a while but want to start exploring beyond the city? Come for a slideshow introduction to the ecosystem outside your door! Learn about the geological and human history of the Coachella Valley, delve into the ecological differences between the Colorado and Mojave Deserts and review guidelines for safely enjoying the desert. Find out about great locations in the area to explore on your own.

Stay after the presentation for a short walk on the Ed Hastey Trail to spot some of the flora and fauna we discussed. Families are welcome. Bring your picnic lunch to enjoy on the Visitor Center’s shaded patio afterwards. For more information, contact Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument Visitor Center, 760-862-9984.
